This Library of America volume collects nearly four decades of Mark Twain's short writing, from his earliest newspaper sketches to the work of his mature years. It includes the famous "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County," along with humorous pieces, travel sketches, speeches, satire and essays. Together they trace how a frontier humourist became one of America's great literary voices. Like all Library of America editions, it comes with an authoritative text, notes and a chronology, in a durable, well-made format. This copy is a first printing of Library of America volume 60, published in 1992.
